You started handling your own books in the gaps: nights, weekends, the last week of the month. It works until it doesn't. You'd rather be working on your business than reconciling cash, pulling together a loan application, or trying to remember who still owes you money.

That's a normal place to be, and it's fixable. That's where I come in.

About me

One person who does both halves of the job.

You can hire someone to record your transactions, or someone to interpret them after the fact. Getting both usually means two relationships and a gap in between where things go wrong. I do both, and I make it seamless. I'll tell you what your books mean without the jargon, and I'll tell your story through the numbers without the guesswork.

I'm a CPA (currently inactive) with fourteen years in accounting and finance. I've been a controller, a director of finance, an auditor and a bookkeeper, and I've spent most of that time on the FP&A side: financial modeling, reporting, budgeting, and leading teams to deliver results as a fractional CFO. I also teach Principles of Accounting at Des Moines Area Community College, so I can make a complex subject easy to understand.

Monthly bookkeeping and month-end close. Cleanup and catch-up when things have gotten behind. QuickBooks set up right, or repaired when it's no longer working. Invoice automation and linked POS systems. Payroll processes that run without you watching them.

The processes, automation and monthly reporting that keep your numbers current. A close checklist, linked invoicing and POS, payroll that runs on rails, and a reporting package built for the person running the business. Documented, so none of it lives in one person's head.

Budgeting and forecasting. Cash flow planning. Financial models for whatever you're weighing: a new hire, a new location, a price change, a change in strategy. If you need a loan, I'll handle the application and the reporting once it's in place.

You don't have to use QuickBooks. I work in whatever system you're in, and if the right answer is outside an accounting system entirely, I'll build it there.
